ROUTEBURN CLASSIC DETAILED ITINERARY MAY 6 to MAY 14, 2007

 

 

MAY 6 DEPART LOS ANGELES

MAY 8 ARRIVE QUEENSTOWN
You will be met at Queenstown Airport and transferred Outside Sports for an official cultural welcome with Maori Cultural Group. Race participants will pi have an opportunity to pick up some fantastic gear for the event and travels around New Zealand. Afterwards you will be taken to Heritage Hotel in Queenstown  for check-in. Rest of day is at your leisure

MAY 9  RACE PACKET PICK-UP, TRANSFER TO TE ANAU
Breakfast included at hotel
Today you will pick up your race packet and check-in at Outside Sports. It is suggested that you take the optional helicopter tour of the Routeburn Track to get a preview and prospective of what you will be running through. In the afternoon you will be transferred to TeAnau and check-in at the Luxmore Hotel. In the evening you will attend a mandatory race briefing

MAY 10 ROUTEBURN CLASSIC 38 KM ADVENTURE RUN
Breakfast included at hotel
This morning you will be picked up from your hotel and taken to start of Routeburn Track. Where you will begin the 38KM run The finish of the run is in Queenstown where you will be met and taken to your hotel. Your luggage will be transported separately. Those not running will be transported to Queenstown or may go to the start of race or to finish to cheer the runners. Later in the evening you there will be a celebration dinner at Skyline Restaurant where a number of Celebrity Athetes will be speaking

MAY 11 DOUBTFUL SOUND FIORDLAND NAVIGATOR

You will be be transported by coach  to TeAnau where you will embark on your Doubtful Sound Overnight Cruise
.Following a short cruise across beautiful Lake Manapouri and a coach trip over Wilmot Pass, you will board the Fiordland Navigator at Deep Cove, Doubtful Sound. There is plenty of time on your overnight cruise to enjoy the stunning views and to discover the hidden arms of Doubtful Sound. Fur seals and bottlenose dolphins are often seen and at times, rare penguins can be observed. There is also time for you to kayak around the shoreline or go exploring in the tender craft with our nature guide. As the shadows lengthen we’ll drop anchor at a favorite mooring for the night. After the days activities, enjoy a delicious evening buffet meal in the spacious dining saloon.
The Fiordland Navigator is purpose built for cruising in the fiords. The vessel offers spacious viewing decks, a comfortable dining saloon/fully licensed bar and observation lounge. .

MAY 12 RETURN FROM CRUISE,
Today you will return back around noon from your overnight cruise and transported back to Queenstown . The rest of day is free.

Today is free to enjoy Queenstown. There are many activities to participate in whether you are a thrill seeker or just want to enjoy the scenery.

MAY 14 DEPART QUEENSTOWN
Breakfast Included at Hotel
Those leaving New Zealand will be transferred to the airport for their departing flight. Those continuing on will be picked up in Queenstown to head toward the glaciers.
