Full Moon Desert Marathon Wadi Rum, Jordan May 3 to May 9, 2012

The run takes place in Wadi Rum a dramatic desert wilderness in the south of Jordan., recently declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. IT in one of the world’s outstanding desert landscapes with breathtaking scenery. Bedouin tribes still live among the mountains of Wadi Rum.

This is a protected area v described by T.E. Lawrence as “vast, echoing and God-like..."

The race starts around 6:30 PM just before sunset and  is run across desert sand. As the sunsets and full moon rises you see a colorful display of rocks. As darkness approaches you are guided by torches. It is truly an amazing experience

Detailed Itinerary
May 3, 2012: Individual arrivals to Queen Alia International Airport, transfer to Amman Hotel for over night

May 4, 2012: Transfer at 09:00 to Wadi Rum; this stupendous, timeless place, virtually untouched by humanity and its destructive forces.
Hikers & Wilderness enthusiasts can enjoy the tranquility of the boundless empty spaces; explore the canyons and water holes to discover 4000 year old rock drawings and the many other spectacular treasures this vast wilderness holds in store. You will have lunch at the Visitors’ Center in Wadi Rum

2-3pm Transfer to desert camp

Marathon starts at 6:30pm
42Km, 21Km and 10Km runs/walks (electronic timing)
Pick up from the visitors’ center in Wadi Rum and transfer to your camp for dinner & overnight

May 5, 2012: Transfer to the Red-Rose city of Petra for overnight.
In the evening, you’ll go to Petra Kitchen and spend an evening learning how to cook some the typical Jordanian dishes and have fun in the process and then you’ll simply enjoy the fruits of your labor. Sahtein wa afiya (bon appétit)! Overnight in Petra

May 6, 2012: Full Day  Petra visit with a local English-speaking guide from the visitors’ center till Qasr Al Bint. Lunch at the Basin restaurant inside the Petra site, overnight in Petra

May 7, 2012: Transfer directly to the Dead Sea where you’ll simply get to float & relax! Overnight at the Dead Sea

May 8, 2012: Transfer to Amman to enjoy the day at leisure, overnight in Amman

May 9, 2012: Transfer to airport for departure with full assistance.

\Exclusions:

  Visa for non-restricted nationalities: A tourist visa can be applied for on arrival at airports or borders, with the exception of King Hussein (Allenby Bridge), against a fee of JD20 (equivalent to around US$29.00). However, payment must be made in local currency (Jordan Dinars)
