COSTA RICA TAMARINDO BEACH MARATHON SEPT 15 TO SEPT 21, 2011

In recent years, the beach town of Tamarindo, located in the province of Guanacaste, has turned into a popular site for sports and athletic activities, such as golf tournaments, surf championships, and even mountain bike races. Now, the marathon category can be added to the list.
The Tamarindo Beach Marathon is a unique opportunity for athletes to combine their love for running with a beautiful natural environment, as the race allows its increasing number of national and international participants to run through one of the most exotic tropical sceneries of the Pacific coast of Costa Rica.
The course has its start and finish line in downtown Tamarindo, site of the town´s future Sports Center. Tamarindo is one of the most popular towns within the coastal zone of the north pacific of Costa Rica, located in the province of Guanacaste. Runners will run through Tamarindo and the nearby towns of Villareal, Matapalo, Huacas, and Brasilito.

The race is certified under the standards set by the IAAF, AIMS, and FECOA.

Key elements of the course
    • Flat: slight changes of altitude, reaching a maximum of 51 msnm, very few turns throughout the course, passing through different communities such as Tamarindo,       Villareal, Matapalo, Huacas and Brasilito.
    • Distance and course certified by AIMS – IAAF.
    • All the race categories start and finish in downtown Tamarindo, site of the town´s future Sports Center.
    • The time limit to finish the race is 6 hours and 30 minutes after the official start time.
    • Runners with vehicles, pets, skates, bicycles, and other non-official vehicles are prohibited from being along the course.
    • Hydration assistance will be available and distributed throughout the course.
