Inca Trail Peru

Located in the countryside of Cuzco, lies one of the new seven wonders of the world known as the ruins of Machu Picchu. Historians believe that this area used to serve as an estate for royals or where sacred religious affairs were held. Invasions during the 16th century left the ruins a secret awaiting to be discovered in 1911.

Machu Picchu stretches a distance of roughly 5 miles across with about 3,000 stone steps that connect a variety of levels.

Before making your way to the ruins, take a dive into the history of Inca heritage. Having first appeared during the 12th century A.D., the Inca Empire was built from the strength of its military power. At the civilizations peak, there were nearly 12 million inhabitants consisting of more than 100 different ethnic groups. Inca’s had also developed agriculture, travel routes, centralized religion, and language.
