Five Sports to Do in the Summer

Looking for a sport that you can enjoy individually and with a group of friends? Spend your summertime enjoying the sports you love and are curious about! Here are five sports to explore this summer.

Water Sports

With sunny weather and time off of school, water sports are one of the best ways to spend summertime with friends and family. Water sports include anything with water not limited to swimming, snorkeling, canoeing/kayaking, sailing, rafting, surfing, water polo, and so much more. Water sports can be enjoyed individually and with other people making it a highly versatile sport. Not only is it a great way to cool off in the hot summer sun, but it is also a great way to get in easy exercise. Make sure to wear and reapply sunscreen often and use reef-safe sunscreen if swimming in the ocean to protect our ocean wildlife. Take proper safety precautions to ensure everyone has a great and safe time.

Ice Skating

Though classified as a winter sport, ice skating and hockey is still a great sport to enjoy in the summertime. If you are looking for a sport that will keep you cool in the summer heat, going to your local ice rink is a great way to exercise and keep cool at the same time. Ice skating is a great way to keep yourself active and get your heart rate up which is great for cardiovascular health. If you are missing Christmas, ice skating will always get your holiday vibes going! Head on down to the rink, put on some skates, enjoy a cup of hot chocolate, and enjoy your wintertime in the summer.

Biking/Cycling

If running or jogging isn’t your thing, cycling is a great way to get in your exercise for the day in the summer. With warm, optimal weather, every day is a cycling day. For easy routes, common streets and parks are great for beginners and children. If you are looking for something a little more challenging, mountain roads or biking-specific lanes are perfect to get in a grueling workout. With UV rays more prominent around the middle of the day, biking in the early morning and the late afternoon and evening will be ideal to avoid heatstroke and sunburns and avoid biking at night. Pack your water bottle and hit the roads!

Beach Volleyball

Looking for a fun sport that involves teamwork in the summer? Beach volleyball is a great way to play a sport with friends and family and also get your exercise in. Volleyball is already an intensive sport, but beach volleyball pushes the body even further. With only two players on each team(of course, any number can play), players will need to run more which is great cardiovascular exercise. With sand being a major component of the game, players will be able to burn more calories than they would have if they were on regular land. With many set beach volleyball courts on several beaches, all you need to bring is a volleyball and your friends.

Ultimate Frisbee

Playing frisbee is probably something that you played as a child, but it is an underrated sport that you can play in the summer with friends. Frisbee is a face-paced game where you need to run to throw and catch the frisbee which would increase your heart rate. It also practices fine motor skills such as aiming, throwing, catching, and jumping which exercises the muscles in your arms, hands, and legs. With people out of school and off of work in the summer, the game is only more fun with more people. Be sure to wear sunscreen and play in a large area where you will not disturb other people or property.

No matter what sports you enjoy playing in the summer, the Absolutely Amazing Travel team wishes you and your family a safe and happy summer! Make sure to play sports responsibly and make sure everyone is included so everyone can have a great time. Let’s get active this summer!
